Indelec Prevectron 3 S40 ESE Air Terminal – P1523
The Indelec Prevectron® 3 S40 (P1523) is an Early Streamer Emission (ESE) lightning conductor with a 40 µs advance time (ΔT). It is part of the Prevectron® 3 range, which Indelec describes as the first ever UL-certified ESE air terminal. It protects buildings, industrial sites and open areas by triggering an upward streamer earlier than a conventional rod, which extends the protected area around the mast.
OptiMax® Technology
The Prevectron 3 S40 continuously measures the electric field gradient (ΔE/Δt) to detect an approaching lightning strike. Its OptiMax® system was developed by Indelec’s Lightning Innovation and Research Institute (LiRi). It neutralises the space charges around the conductor before the upward streamer is triggered. The unit is built from 3 independent, synchronised modules.
Robust, Certified Construction
The housing is made of 316 stainless steel with electromagnetic shielding, and the central rod is 200 mm² nickel-plated copper. The terminal withstands a normative lightning current of 100 kA (Imax 200 kA) and fixes to the pole with an M20 thread. It is made in France and covered by a 5-year warranty.

The longer the advance time, the larger the protection radius at a given mast height. For larger areas, step up to the Prevectron 3 S50 (P1533) or the Prevectron 3 S60 (P1543).
Complete the Installation
After a lightning strike, a lightning protection system must be inspected. Adding an Indelec Digital Flash Lightning Counter (P8011) on the down conductor records every strike, so you know when an inspection is due.
