Oriental Motor AZM46MC Product Overview
The Oriental Motor AZM46MC is a high-performance, NEMA 17 closed-loop stepper motor belonging to the advanced αSTEP AZ Series. Built with a 42 mm (1.65 in.) square flange frame size, this AC-input component motor features an integrated power-off activated electromagnetic brake and a patented mechanical absolute encoder (ABZO). It is engineered for industrial motion control applications requiring strict vertical load holding, zero position hunting, and sensorless absolute position tracking.

Battery-Free ABZO Mechanical Absolute Tracking
The AZM46MC motor incorporates Oriental Motor’s unique, multi-turn mechanical encoder technology. Unlike optical encoders that depend on a continuous back-up battery or external limit switches to log coordinate positioning, the ABZO tracking sensor relies on a multi-stage mechanical gear framework. Position data is permanently preserved across a range of ±900 shaft rotations, completely eliminating time-consuming return-to-home sequence cycles after emergency plant power outages or main cable disconnections.
Closed-Loop Reliability with Zero Hunting
Designed to operate in combination with an αSTEP AZ Series AC driver, the AZM46MC employs a hybrid tracking control method. Under standard load conditions, the motor steps synchronously with open-loop responsiveness to ensure smooth, high-speed movement without gain tuning. If a sudden overload or positional displacement is encountered, the driver instantaneously switches to closed-loop correction mode. When stopped, the motor relies on its stable holding torque without micro-hunting vibrations, making it an excellent match for low-rigidity assemblies and multi-axis vertical positioning mechanisms.
