The Burkert 00318040 (article no. 318040) is a Type 8793 SideCONTROL digital electropneumatic process controller in the NAMUR variant. It combines a PID process controller and a positioner in one robust, plastic-coated aluminium housing. It mounts directly on linear actuators to IEC 60534-6-1 or on rotary actuators to VDI/VDE 3845 (IEC 60534-6-2).

How the 00318040 Controls Your Process
The 8793 reads the actual process value directly from a 4–20 mA transmitter, a Pt100 sensor or a frequency signal. It compares this value with the set-point and calculates the position set-point for its built-in positioner, which then drives the control valve. Commissioning is largely automatic:
- X.TUNE adjusts the positioner to the actuator.
- P.TUNE self-optimises the PID parameters of the process loop.
The actuating system is air-tight in the controlled state, so it uses no air while holding position. It also has a defined safety response if the electrical or pneumatic supply fails.
