RP-16A-20-Y-8 Winner Hydraulics High-Capacity Balanced Piston Relief Valve, 16A-2 Cavity
The RP-16A-20-Y-8 is Winner Hydraulics’ 380 L/min pilot-operated relief cartridge with a balanced piston main stage and an integral 8A-2 control cavity. It screws into a 16A-2 cavity with an M36 x 2.0 thread and is rated to 350 bar. Fitting any 8A-2 pressure control cartridge into its pilot cavity turns it into a manually adjustable, remotely controlled or electro-proportional relief valve for high-flow hydraulic circuits.
Function
Inlet pressure at port 1 is sensed against the setting of the 8A-2 pilot cartridge. When the setting is exceeded, the balanced piston pilot-opens port 2 and meters flow from port 1 to port 2 (P to T) to keep system pressure at the set level. The pilot setting governs the pressure differential between the ports. Back pressure at port 2 is added to the setting at a 1:1 ratio. Port 2 is rated for full pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the RP-16A-20-Y-8 and the RP-16A-2G-Y-8?
Both fit the 16A-2 cavity and are rated for 380 L/min at 350 bar. The RP-16A-20-Y-8 uses a balanced piston main stage, while the RP-16A-2G-Y-8 uses a balanced poppet. Winner recommends the poppet version where high pressure drop could cause cavitation, noise or manifold erosion. It also has lower leakage (approx. 0.7 cc/min at reseat) and a faster typical response (7 ms).
Can the RP-16A-20-Y-8 be used for load holding?
No. Winner states that this valve is not suitable for load-holding applications, due to spool leakage.
Which pilot valves work with the RP-16A-20-Y-8?
Any 8A-2 pressure control cartridge. For electro-proportional control, Winner pairs it with the PRB-8A-2D-Y-Z and PRB-8A-2C-Y-Z (direct-acting) or the PRA-8A-2C-Y-Z and PRA-8A-2D-Y-Z-74 (inverse direct-acting).
What does the “Y” in the part number stand for?
It is the spring code: D (1.7 bar minimum control pressure) or W (7 bar minimum control pressure).
