The Panasonic AFPX-COM1 is the FP-X COM1 communication cassette. It is an add-on module that gives a Panasonic FP-XH (or FP-X) compact PLC one RS-232C serial port. Unlike Panasonic’s 3-wire RS-232C cassettes, the COM1 is a 5-wire type with RS and CS control signals. This handshaking lets the PLC communicate reliably with devices that need hardware flow control, such as modems, some printers and barcode readers. It also connects HMIs, PCs, temperature controllers and other RS-232C equipment. The cassette plugs straight into the control unit’s cassette slot, so no extra DIN-rail space is needed.
