IFM IFS240 Inductive Proximity Sensor
Technical Specifications & Features
The IFM IFS240 (shortcode: IFB3004-BPKG/IO/US-100-DPS) is an advanced IO-Link enabled inductive proximity sensor designed for modern industrial automation and smart factory applications. Built into a robust cylindrical threaded M12 x 1 metal barrel housing with a total length of 60 mm, it utilizes a flush mountable installation design. It provides a rated sensing range of 4 mm, a real sensing range ($Sr$) of 4 mm $\pm$ 10%, and an operating distance of 0 to 3.24 mm. The unit is constructed with a white bronze-coated brass housing, an active PBT face, a PEI LED window, and an M12 connector with gold-plated contacts. Material correction factors include mild steel = 1, stainless steel approx. 0.7, brass approx. 0.5, aluminium approx. 0.4, and copper approx. 0.3.
Key Operational Benefits & Electrical Data
-
Electrical Ratings: Operates on a DC PNP architecture with a wide operating voltage range of 10 to 30 V DC, a current consumption of less than 10 mA, a protection class II rating, and a permanent switching output current rating of 100 mA.
-
Switching Performance & IO-Link: Features a programmable output function (normally open or normally closed) alongside dual communication via IO-Link (Communication Mode COM2 / 38.4 kBaud). It delivers a maximum voltage drop of 2.5 V, a switching frequency of 700 Hz, a hysteresis of 3 to 15% of $Sr$, and precise switch-point drift control of -10 to 10% of $Sr$.
-
Environmental & Mechanical Protection: Rated to IP67 for superior dust and moisture protection in harsh industrial environments. It operates efficiently within a wide ambient temperature range of -25 °C to 80 °C and incorporates built-in pulsed short-circuit protection, overload protection, and reverse polarity protection.
