Oriental Motor AZD-A Product Overview
The Oriental Motor AZD-A is a high-performance, box-type closed-loop stepper motor driver belonging to the innovative αSTEP AZ Series. Designed to run on a single-phase 100-120 VAC power input, this pulse-input driver is engineered to provide precise tracking and absolute positioning control. It works directly alongside advanced AZ Series stepper motors featuring built-in mechanical absolute sensors, completely eliminating the need for external back-up batteries or optical home/limit switches.

Battery-Free Mechanical Absolute Encoder (ABZO) Compatibility
The AZD-A driver relies on Oriental Motor’s patented mechanical ABZO sensor technology integrated within matched motors. Positioning coordinates are retained mechanically using internal multi-stage gear configurations. Because data is stored without an electrical charge, the system maintains exact positioning even if there is a sudden factory power outage or the motor-to-driver connection cable is disconnected. This eliminates time-consuming return-to-home procedures during production restarts.
Dual-Control Closed-Loop Performance
Combining the high-speed responsiveness and zero-hunting characteristics of an open-loop system with the positional reliability of a closed-loop layout, the AZD-A offers remarkable stability under variable load states. Under typical operation, it acts in open-loop mode; however, if a sudden mechanical overload occurs, it immediately switches to a closed-loop monitoring structure to correct displacement and prevent stalling. Operators can monitor live system diagnostics, load factors, and driver internal temperatures using the free MEXE02 support software.
